The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies was established by the Swedish Government in 1994.
The Foundation’s mission is to support research, doctoral studies and scientific infrastructure related to the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe at Södertörn University.

An information meeting about the 2021 application round will be held on Wednesday, 11 November at 1:00-2:30 pm. See news for more information.
The application system opens
The application system opens on Monday, 11 January 2021 at 9:00 am.
Last application date
The last application date for all forms of support is Wednesday, 3 February 2021.
Notification on projects and postdoctoral projects
Notification of whether applications have been approved to proceed to stage 2 will be sent in March 2021. Notification concerns two- and three-year projects and postdoctoral projects.
Decision on research networks
Decisions on whether to approve research networks applications or not will be taken by the Foundation’s Board on Wednesday, 14 April 2021.
Notification on grand projects
Notification of whether applications have been approved to proceed to external expert assessment will be sent in April 2021. Notification concerns grand projects.
Last application date stage 2
The last application date in stage two concerning two- and three- year projects and postdoctoral projects is on Wednesday, 28 April 2021 at 3:00 pm.

Decisions on whether applications have been approved or not are taken by the Foundation’s Board on Tuesday, 6 October 2021. Decision concerns projects, postdoctoral projects and grand projects.

The Foundation and the Södertörn University are two independent organisations with different regulations, but with a common goal to strive for the highest possible quality in research related to the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe
The allocated capital was approximately SEK 1.3 billion
Since its founding, the Foundation has distributed approximately SEK 3.7 billion

The Foundation funded scientific infrastructure through a grant of SEK 18.2 million to Södertörn University’s library
