The Board is appointed by the Government (two members) and by the Board itself (seven members).
The proposal for members of the Board (six members) is submitted by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (Kungl. Vetenskapsakademien), the higher education institutions and the heads of the following Swedish agencies: the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsr\u00e5det); the Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forskningsr\u00e5det f\u00f6r h\u00e4lsa, arbetsliv och v\u00e4lf\u00e4rd – Forte); the Research Council for the Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Forskningsr\u00e5det f\u00f6r milj\u00f6, areella n\u00e4ringar och samh\u00e4llsbyggande – Formas); and Sweden\u2019s Innovation Agency (Verket f\u00f6r innovationssystem – Vinnova).
